How Does an Air Fryer Work?
An air fryer is a small appliance that uses hot air to cook food. It’s similar to a convection oven, but it uses less energy and cooks food faster. Air fryers are becoming more and more popular. They’re convenient, time-saving, and they’re a simple way to cook food.
So how does an air fryer work? It has a heating element that quickly heats the air inside the fryer. The hot air is then circulated around the food, cooking it evenly. Air fryers also have a fan that helps to circulate the hot air.
There are lots of benefits to using an air fryer. First, it’s a healthier way to cook food. Since the air fryer doesn’t use oil, the food stays light and better for your diet.
Also, air fryers cook food evenly and quickly, so you don’t have to spend as much time in the kitchen. Plus cleaning up an air fryer is a breeze, since it’s a one-pot meal and there’s no oily mess.
It’s surprising what can be cooked in an air fryer – including vegetables, meats, and even desserts. And air fryers are more energy efficient than traditional ovens or fryers, which can help you save money on your energy bill.
Bottom line? Using an air fryer is a fast, healthy, and budget friendly way to cook your food.
Do You Need a Dehydrator?
Although new on the scene of air fryer dehydrator combos, people have been dehydrating food for centuries. Dehydrators are a great way to preserve food: By removing the water content from foods, dehydrators help to extend shelf life.
Dehydrators can also be used to create tasty or interesting food textures. For example, you can use a dehydrator to make crispy fruit chips or chewy beef jerky.
If you have a small pantry, dehydrating food is a great idea. When food is dehydrated, it takes up less room. This means that you can store more food in a smaller space.
Dehydrating food can also help you to save money and reduce food waste. Less cash in the trash! You can bulk-buy food on sale and then dehydrate what you don’t need right away.
And if you have garden produce that comes in all at once, dehydrating is another great way (besides canning or freezing) to preserve all that goodness.
Did You Know…?
Clemson University SC
140 °F is the optimal temperature to dehydrate foods. Higher temps can make your foods cook instead of dehydrate. The moisture left inside can cause mold and decay.
Also, dehydrators are pretty easy to use. Most dehydrators come with simple, straightforward instructions. And once you get the hang of dehydrating, you can experiment with all sorts of different foods.
If you’re looking for a new way to preserve food or to create dried recipes like trail mix and jerky, a dehydrator is a great tool to have in your kitchen.
The 10 Best Air Fryer Dehydrator Combos
If you have an air fryer, you know how amazing it can be and how it can revolutionize meal prep. And if you’re an avid dehydrator fan, you know those benefits, too.
What could be better than an appliance that combines both features into one unit?
As technology gets more savvy, many air fryers are now including the ability to dehydrate foods, too. But because there are so many variations between all the models’ sizes, prices, features, etc., it can make a person’s head spin choosing between them.

Some customers complained that the instructions were unclear or had problems with quality. Lots of others raved about it. Maybe worth a try at this price point.

Our Take: We actually have the Cosori Pro II 5.8 Qt air fryer, and we love it. If we didn’t already have a separate dehydrator and toaster oven too, we’d probably buy this unit. It does everything, has a great temperature range, lots of dish-washer safe accessories, wifi-accessible and great reviews – all at a good price. Our Take: This machine would be gorgeous sitting on your counter, and it has decent reviews. It has a smaller capacity, so may be best for 1-2 people or smaller sides/snacks. The minimum temperature of 150 degrees is likely too high for dehydrating, though. If that’s your main reason for buying and you like the price point, maybe consider the Gourmia Fry Force GAF686.

Air Fryer Smell Like Burning Plastic? Here’s What to Do
Your new air fryer is here! You turn it on for the first time and… What? Suddenly your house smells like burning plastic. What the heck?
A new air fryer might be a great addition to your kitchen, but it can also come with a nasty odor that can leech into the food’s flavor – plus make your kitchen smell awful. (When we first used our much beloved Cosori unit, we didn’t know what was happening and almost returned it. So glad we didn’t!)
Turns out the smell is usually caused by the manufacturing oils on the heating elements, the plastic parts, or the basket and trays. Here are some tips on how to get rid of the smell from a new air fryer:
1. Before using your air fryer for the first time, wash the basket and tray with warm, soapy water and a soft cloth. Make sure you don’t use anything abrasive that can damage the anti-stick coating. Rinse and dry them well.
2. Plug in your air fryer and let it run empty for about 15 minutes at 400°F. (You might want to do this in the garage or outside.) This will help burn off any residue or fumes. You may notice some smoke or smell during this process, but it should go away after a few cycles. Be patient!
3. To further reduce the smell, you can place some slices of lemon in the basket and cook them at 300°F for 5 to 10 minutes. The lemon will help neutralize the odors and freshen up your air fryer. You can also use other citrus fruits, vinegar, or baking soda for this purpose.
4. Repeat the above steps – including the wash/dry step – for a few cycles or until the odor is gone. Using your machine is the way to eliminate the smell. Soon you should be able to enjoy your new air fryer without any unpleasant smell. Happy air frying!
Are There Any Air Fryers Made in USA?
Although we love our friends in China, we also like to support our own USA manufacturers.
But if you’re looking for an air fryer dehydrator made in the USA – or anywhere else, for that matter – you’re out of luck. It seems China has really cornered the market on air fryers.
Every so often, a limited run can be found from Indonesia or Turkey. And some air fryers have been assembled in Canada and Australia. But these unicorns are getting harder to find.
If buying a non-China air fryer is important to you, check the bottom of the box to find the country of origin when you buy. It will say where it was manufactured.
And no, GoWISE USA is not made in the USA. Is their name a little sneaky or just a nod to the motherland?
Wrapping Things Up
