Get Ready for Midsummer!

a Midsommar Viking Bonfire Fest

When: Saturday, June 22, 5:00 – 8:00 PM
Where: A collaboration with the Sons of Norway – Dovre Lodge at the Pioneer Village Museum.

What is Midsummer?

Midsummer celebrates the summer solstice, the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s a tradition that dates back to before Christianity, blending historical significance with local culture.

It’s a big deal in Scandinavian countries, and the tradition is alive right here!

This Year’s Theme: Vikings!

Pioneer Village Museum is going all out this year with a Viking theme. Here’s a sneak peek at what they’ve planned:

  • Crafts: Try your hand at traditional Nordic crafts like woodcarving, iron smithing and flower crown making.
  • Food: Learn to make lefse, krumkake, and vafler—tasty treats from Scandinavia.
  • Games: Join in on ski races, frisbee golf, and corn hole. Fun for all ages!
  • Costume Contest: Dress up in your best Viking gear for a chance to win in the King & Queen and Little Vikings contests.
  • Dance Around the Maypole: A traditional dance that’s all about celebrating life and fertility.
  • The Pioneer Grill: Fuel up with Troll Brats and more delicious eats.
  • The Bonfire: The big event at 7:00 PM. It’s not just a fire; it’s a symbol of community and warmth.

Why Celebrate Midsummer at Pioneer Village Museum?

Midsummer is a way to embrace culture, join a community, and keep a beautiful tradition going. It’s about connecting with history, having fun in the present, and making memories for the future.

  • Culture: Immerse yourself in a tradition that crosses continents and ages.
  • Community: Meet new friends and celebrate with old ones.
  • Continuity: Be part of keeping a meaningful tradition alive.
